NEWS

We had a very productive meeting on August 11th.  These are just a few highlights of what was discussed during the meeting:

Old/Unfinished Business - Passed getting the by-laws updated

New Business - We are going to change over to River Region Credit Union Bank at the next quarter.

Good of the Order:

Poker nights are the 1st Friday of each month.  Next poker night is Sept 5th starting at 6PM.  Need volunteers and menus going forward.  Any member handling food will have to get a food handlers card from the City of Columbia.  That can be obtained here:  https://www.como.gov/FoodHandler/index.cfm

Discussed the Elsberry VFW post flood issue.  We are waiting to hear what other posts and the state will do before approval of any support for the post.

Robert Hutchson was introduced as a new transfer from the state of California.  Since we are needing several volunteers for different events, he wanted to get the scouts and ROTC involved more.

Our pancake breakfast will start back up starting Sept 20th from 8-11.  Again, need volunteers for these events.  Please let us know if you can help in any way.

Next public relations meeting will be Aug 21st starting at 6PM.  Guest speaker Paul Gray with VA Suicide Prevention.  He will conduct a class for the members.  PLEASE attend, this will be good information to help us help our local veterans in distress.

Fall C of A will be Oct 10th to the 12th at the Lake of the Ozark.  More information will be available after the National Convention.

Next District 2 meetings:  November 1st @ the Crocker post - Jan 10th @ Jefferson City post.

Last honor flight will convoy through Columbia on Sept 15th

Our JR Vice Crystal discussed several items coming up for the Urban Farm and for the Buddy Poppy program.

Buddy Poppy - decided will have on November 8th, weekend before Veterans Day.  Will be coordinating with local business for set up and getting sign up sheets for volunteers will be posted.

Urban Farm - Sept 20th there will be a Harvest hootnannies from 4PM to 8PM.  She will need volunteers to help with this festival.  It is the 16th annual and is very large.  2 hour shifts

October 7th - Fall Farm Festival from 4PM to 7PM.  More information to be given at later date.

I believe that was everything we discussed.  I may have missed something, but that is why Marilyn listens back to the recorder, and the OFFICIAL minutes will be posted after approved by membership.  If there is anything that was left out, please let me know and I will get it added to the list.
