Robert Hutchison
Surgeon - Army

Description of Duties: As your Post Surgeon, I serve as a point of contact for health‑related questions, referrals, and wellness initiatives. I do not provide direct medical care, but I work to connect you with trusted resources—VA, community providers, and veteran‑focused programs—that can help.

Military Background & Service: I served in the U.S. Army Reserves as a Combat Engineer for 14 and a half months, of which 11 months was delayed entry attending reserve drills for pay until going to basic training at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri, and returning to my reserve company in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.  I then joined the regular Army in May 1987 and immediately attended Jump School at Fort Benning, Georgia.  My first duty station was the 82ndEngineer Battalion in Bamberg, Germany. From Germany, I went to Fort Bragg, North Carolina in the 82ndAirborne Division.  I attended Jumpmaster School and was later deployed to Panama (Operation Just Cause), and the following year I deployed to Southwest Asia (Operation Desert Shield/Storm).  I went back to Germany and was assigned to the 23rd Engineer Battalion in Hanau, Germany, but that base closed and we moved to Friedberg, Germany.  I went back to Fort Bragg, North Carolina in the 20th Engineer Brigade and left the Army with a little over 11 years of service.  I achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant SSG/E6.  I was awarded a Master Parachutist Badge, German Sharpshooter Badge, German Parachutist Badge (novice), Expert Rifleman Badge, and a Drivers Badge for Track Vehicles.  My awards included: Kuwait Liberation Medal Kuwait, Kuwait Liberation Medal Southwest Asia, Overseas Service Ribbon (2), Army Service Ribbon, Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon (2), Southwest Asia Service Medal (2 BSS), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Bronze Arrowhead), National Defense Service Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal (3rd Award), Army Achievement Medal (5th Award), Army Commendation Medal (4th Award), and Meritorious Service Medal (1st Award).

VFW Connection: I joined the VFW in 2019 to continue to serve with fellow vets, share stories, and honor each other for our service to this great nation.

Interests:  I enjoy shooting at the range, playing with my dog, and being retired.  I also enjoy talking to people and interacting with them when my mind is fit.
