Veterans vs The World

Veterans Vs. The World
Every veteran at one point or another yearns for the thrill of war in their own way.

But from personal experience the real war isn’t fought on some long forgotten stretch of road or in a village you can’t pronounce.

And it doesn’t begin suddenly in broad daylight with bullets and IEDs.

The real war begins in the quiet stillness of the night when you’re alone and surrounded by silence.

It begins in the years after we hang up the uniform and the adrenaline fades away.

And it begins the moment we try to reintegrate into a world that doesn’t understand us.

And the battles we fight show up in the form of depression, anxiety, anger and addiction…

Leaving us with scars that only we can see…

But the thing no one talks about is that we were built for this fight.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s not easy…not by a long shot.

But it’s not impossible either…

Every hardship you’ve faced, every 3AM wake-up, and every impossible task you were given was all preparing you for this war.

And the thing is that most veterans fight this war completely on the defense.

They dig their foxhole, and try to withstand the bombardment that constantly rains down on them.

Bills are piling up…(Mortar overhead)

Spouse is unhappy…(Burst of Machinegun fire)

Work isn’t fulfilling…(Grenade nearby)

Body is broken…(Essential gear failing you)

All of which leave you feeling overwhelmed and all alone

And to be honest…yeah…why wouldn’t it?

But I’m telling you now, that if you just fall back on your training, stop playing defense and take the fight to the enemy, then everything changes

Start going to bed and waking up early to get some quality time with your spouse.

Start going for a walk or lifting weights just to get your body moving.

Start filling your calendar with events that fire up your life and give you purpose again.

Because the secret advantage we have in this war is the enemy can’t shoot for shit and they rarely hit a moving target.

And the best part is, you don’t have to fight this war alone.

There's an entire brotherhood behind you fighting their own wars and would love to support you in yours.

So if you’re ready to go on the offensive, the Facebook group is a great place to start.

I’m rooting for you,

P.S. The real war begins when you’re all alone. But that doesn’t mean you have to fight it alone. Reach out in the community and find support.

It’s time we take this fight on the offensive.
